What can I expect when I have my tooth extracted?
When you come into Platinum Dental Care in St. George to get a tooth pulled, our goal is to put you at ease and make you as comfortable as possible. Before your tooth is extracted the area around your tooth will be numbed with a local anesthetic so you won’t feel any pain, although you will feel some pressure as the tooth is pulled.
After the tooth is removed sutures may be necessary and a thick layer of gauze will be placed over the site, with pressure used to stop the bleeding. It’s normal for there to be some mild swelling and pain after an extraction, but applying ice and taking over-the-counter pain medication such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen is usually enough to control it.
How do I recover after an
extraction?
It’s important for you to take good care of the site of the extraction so that it can heal as quickly as possible. Some important things to remember are:
- Be careful when eating and eat only soft foods
- Don’t poke around the area with your fingers or tongue
- Don’t use a straw or suck on anything
- Don’t smoke
- Don’t drink alcoholic beverages
- Don’t rinse your mouth vigorously
The pros at Platinum Dental Care in St. George will be there for you every step of the way. Call us to schedule an appointment now.
