Dr. Phillip Acevedo

Dr. Acevedo started his dental career in 2008 as a lab technician by becoming a Certified Dental Laboratory Technician through USC.He has gone on to receive the Dr. Rodolfo Montes Memorial Scholarship for outstanding academic record and community service, the Louis and Erma Feldman Endowed Scholarship for leadership and academic excellence, and he was voted the Best Hand Skills by USC Dental Class of 2015.

Dr. Acevedo believes that skill and compassion go hand in hand when providing exceptional patient care. As a dental professional, he stays up to date on the latest advancements in dentistry in order to provide the most current treatment options for his patients. 

As a doctor, he recognizes that his patients are unique individuals who have placed a great deal of trust in him and his team. He is a member of The California Dental Association, American Dental Association, and American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry

Dr. Acevedo loves living in Southern Utah and spending time outdoors. When outside the office, he enjoys hiking, camping, and biking with his wife and three boys, Kayden, Kale, and Kingston. 

 

 

Dr. Alan Schmidt

Dr. Alan Schmidt graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine in 1987. He received a degree of D.M.D., Doctor of Dental Medicine. He holds licenses in the states of Pennsylvania, and Utah. He has been in continuous practice since October of 1987. 

He was employed by American Dental Services for 15 years. His most recent employment is with Katsur Dental and Orthodontics for 18 years. His position at Katsur Dental was dentist and Senior Doctor. 

When he isn’t practicing Dentistry he enjoys model railroading, off road riding in his side by side, repairing things, and playing video games.

Dr. Paul Francis

Doctor Paul Francis is married and has three children. His daughter, Cassandra Silva, lives in Melbourne Australia, She graduated with a Masters degree in Marketing and works in the dental field, doing marketing for Dentsply. His son, Alexander, graduated in 2010 with honors from SUU, and from Bowling Green University with a Masters of Philosophy in 2014. Nicholas, his youngest son, graduated from The University of Utah with a Masters degree in Finance and Business, he works for a local FinTech company.

Dr. Francis attended Uintah High school, BYU and VCU before graduating with a DDS degree at the Medical College of Virginia in 1985. He then entered the United States Army as a Captain and began his dental career in Kaiserslautern Germany. He practiced as a general dentist in the Army before entering his periodontics residency. He received his certificate in Periodontics from the U.S. Army Periodontic Residency at Ft. Gordon, GA and his M.S. in Oral Biology from the Medical College of Georgia in 1998. Dr. Francis completed his board certification with the American Board of Periodontology in 1999, while serving in Seoul, South Korea.

Colonel Francis served as an instructor and mentor for the Army AEGD-1 year residency program and a proctor for the mock boards at the University of Washington Periodontal Residency Program. He has been an instructor for the Dental Hygiene course at the Medical College of Georgia and an adjunctive faculty member for Armstrong Atlantic State University Dental Hygiene program. Dr. Francis is currently on the staff as an adjunctive faculty member at the Utah College of Dental Hygiene. Colonel Francis holds the Surgeon General’s “A” designator and has earned military awards to include the Expert Field Medical Badge, the Meritorious Service Medal and the Legion of Merit. Colonel Francis was also the 18th MED COM Periodontal Consultant from 1998-2000 in Seoul Korea.

Dr. Francis is a member of the and a Diplomat of the American Board of Periodontology He is a member of the American Dental Association, Utah Dental Association and the 38thParallel Dental Society. Dr. Francis was the President of the Provo District Dental society in 2011, and for many years was the leader of a Spear Study Club that meets monthly.

Dr Francis is currently working as a Periodontist in St. George Utah at Platinum Dental.

Dr. Shaun Heward

Dr. Shaun Heward was born and raised in Sandy, Utah. He attended Alta High School and completed his undergraduate at University of Utah. During this time he worked as a dental laboratory technician making crowns and bridges. He then moved to Lexington, Kentucky where he completed dental school at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry. Following dental school, he began medical school at the University of Michigan Medical School. While at the University of Michigan, he also completed his internship in general surgery, residency in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, and was a chief resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. 

Dr. Heward has extensive surgical training in corrective jaw surgery (orthognathic surgery), tumors/cysts of the jaws, face trauma, dental implants, wisdom teeth removal, cleft lip and palate, face reconstruction and bone grafting. He is delighted to have moved back to his home state of Utah and working with Platinum Dental Services. He also has a passion for serving others abroad and continues to treat less fortunate patients on mission trips overseas. 

When Dr. Heward is not at work he enjoys camping, fishing, hunting, biking, shooting, gardening, wood working and cooking.

Dr. Kirk Anderton

Dr. Kirk Anderton is a Utah native, grew up in American Fork, Utah and graduated with a major in Zoology from BYU.  Dr. Anderton, or Dr. A, graduated from the  University of Nebraska Medical Center College of Dentistry and then attended West Virginia University Medical Center where he received a masters degree in Orthodontics.  Dr. A and his wife Bonnie have been married for almost forty years.  They have six children and four grandchildren that are scattered across the United States.  They live in southern Utah.  Dr. Anderton has many hobbies and interests, chief among them are his modest car collection, guitars, rock and roll memorabilia, BYU athletics, snow and water skiing, woodworking, gardening, travel and others.  

His greatest passion is orthodontics.  There is nothing more rewarding than the successful treatment of someone’s teeth or the joy and change that it brings to the life and face of a patient.  His goal is and has always been to provide the highest quality care to every patient in a caring and fun environment.
