Denture Fitting and Placement

How your dentures are fitted and placed depends on the type of dentures you’re receiving. There are two types of dentures: partial, and full. What’s the difference? Allow us to explain:

Partial dentures rely on a framework that is built into the mouth, and on the surrounding healthy teeth.

Full dentures may require the removal of all remaining teeth, which will require time for your gums to heal. A local anesthetic will be placed during your procedure to keep you comfortable, and your dentist will provide you with a set of well-fitting temporary dentures to use until your gums have healed fully. While your gums heal, your new dentures will be custom-made in a laboratory.

Our compassionate, understanding team at Platinum Dental Care in st. George will help you determine what type of dentures will best meet your needs. They will also provide you with everything you need to know about preparing for the placement of your new dentures, and caring for them afterward.

Helping you and your new dentures get

Adjusted

  • Insertion and removal of dentures may feel uncomfortable at first, but will soon become natural.
  • Dentures may feel uncomfortable or ill-fitting as the cheek muscles and tongue adjust to them.
  • Mild soreness and irritation will occur for some time after the initial placement of the dentures, but will eventually fade.
  • In some cases, dental implants may be a better option than dentures. Call today and ask one of our amazing dentists!
