Wondering About Dental Crowns?
How many appointments does it take to have a dental crown implanted? How can I know if a dental crown is right for me? What is the procedure like?
If you have found yourself asking one or all of these questions, you’ve come to the right place. Here at Platinum Dental in St. George, we value our patients’ peace of mind, and we know that comes from answering their most pressing dental questions—even before they step in our office.
Dental crowns are typically applied in two appointments. During the first appointment, our friendly and compassionate dental team will take digital, low-radiation x-rays of your teeth and gums. Next, you will be given a local anesthetic to numb the affected area as a dentist makes room for the crown by removing unhealthy tooth structure. Then, putty or paste will be used to take an impression of the tooth, and a temporary crown will be placed over the tooth.
Afterward, our dentist will provide you with a consultation detailing all of the materials your crown can be made of. The impressions of your tooth will then be sent to a lab where the permanent crown will be made. Your new, permanent crown will be placed during the second visit. During the fitting, our dentist will ensure that the crown fits comfortably and correctly.
